What is leadership vision? Leadership vision provides a sense of purpose and direction. It is an essential means enabling you to focus on what matters most, what you want to accomplish, and what kind of leader you want to be. Your vision should consider your life experiences, your dreams for the future and the realities of your current state.

A vision is a vivid mental image of what you want your future to look like based on your goals and aspirations. It is the art of making the impossible, possible by discovering, developing and delivering with clarity and focus.

1) Vision gives you meaning and purpose

It will give you your “why”, your reason for doing what you do. It will help you achieve the end result.

2) Vision shows you where you’re headed

It helps you create a plan for the future so that you can mitigate/avoid the unexpected situations that divert you from reaching your goals.

3) Vision provides you motivation and inspiration

It needs to be strong enough to see you through to the end and allow you to accomplish your goals.

4) Vision helps you move forward and move through obstacles

It should allow you to persevere through the tough stuff so that the little obstacles and setbacks seem small and insignificant.

5) Vision provides you clarity and focus

It helps limit your distractions so you can achieve your goals. It allows you to focus on the 20% that’s most important and delegate the remaining 80% to others capable of doing the work.

  • Start by free journaling. Free-writing is one of the most effective ways of journaling. Grab your journal, tap your favorite playlist and set your timer for at least 20 minutes. Describe your ideal life in as much detail as possible. Let your imagination run absolutely wild! Here are some questions to ask yourself. Who do you want to be? What do you do? Are you optimistic? How do you encourage and motivate others? What do you look like? Do you like to run? What’s your favorite workout? Where do you live? How do you go about your day? How do you speak to people you love, adore, and admire? How do they speak to you? What’s your favorite restaurant? What kind of food do you eat? Do you have any hobbies? Who’s in your life? What does it feel like to go through your day? Are you happy?

  • Write down ten dreams. Now that you’ve described your ideal life, it’s time to create your top ten dreams. When you write down your dreams, do so as if they have already happened. For example, if you want to write a book, you might say, “I am a NY times best selling author.” Be creative and cover all aspects of your life so that you can create a vision for the best version of yourself.

  • Focus on one goal. While you want to keep your ultimate vision at the forefront, it helps to focus on one goal at a time. You can create a simple action plan to help you accomplish each of your goals until your vision (i.e., top ten dreams) becomes a reality.

  • Create a vision board. A vision board is a creative process that allows you to set your intentions and goals for what you want in your life so you can grow and transform your life. It’s a visual reminder that helps you stay focused and on track.

Remember, your vision represents who you are and what you stand for. Sharing your vision in a way that compels action is the secret to strong and effective leadership. If this blog resonates with you and you want help creating your vision, LET’S CONNECT.
